Sunday Brunch

Mmmmm. Dim sum. I love love love the thought of steaming hot roast pork buns, juicy xiaolongbao soup dumplings, and the decadent mango pudding that usually tops off the end of each meal. This weekend, I got my dim sum fix at the JW Marriott’s Wan Hao Chinese restaurant in People’s Square. Great views and all-you-can-eat goodness, what’s not to love?

Overlooking the Shanghai skyline from within, the five of us set out to chow down on everything from spring rolls and shrimp dumplings to XO sauce turnip cakes, curry fishballs, and tripe. The spring rolls were cooked to perfection; satisfyingly soft on the inside with a nice outside crunch. The vegetables were freshly stir-fried, and the congee was tasty but light. I’m still a little iffy on eating cow stomach linings… but David really liked the tripe!

My favorite part of the meal - well, of any meal - was of course, the dessert. The JW has some of the best sweet, soft coconut mochi, rolled in crisp almond slices and filled to the brim with egg custard. My stomach is like a bottomless pit… I’m still drooling just thinking about it.

Wan Hao Restaurant, 39th Floor, JW Marriott Shanghai Tomorrow Square (Nanjing Xi Lu and Huangpi Bei Lu), All-you-can-eat 98 RMB/per person + 15% service charge. Is that a good deal or what?
