Hidden within a little alleyway next to a C-Store in Xujiahui is my favorite Thai restaurant in all of Shanghai. Thai House!

With prices slightly more reasonable than Coconut Paradise in Jing’an, Thai House offers big plates of authentic Thai food within a casual, cozy setting. When you walk in the front entrance, you’ll be greeted with the Chinese-speaking parrot (“Ni Hao!”), and a few sort-of friendly waitresses.
I love their Pad Thai (naturally), their amazing papaya salad, and their Tom Yum Soup, conveniently served in a Bundt Cake pan (the ladle is just big enough so that it doesn’t scoop easily from the bowl). Nonetheless, so gooood.

Don’t forget to try their deep fried pumpkin rolls, a crunchy, doughy, sweet, salty treat!
Thai House: 518 Jiashan Road, near Jiangguo Xi Road. 2 minutes’ walk from the Line 9 Jiashan Lu Metro Stop. The alleyway is right beyond a C-Store.
