I started posting “Junk Food of the Week” entries a while back, but then I stopped. I’m supposed to be “eating healthy.”
This afternoon I made my way over to La Creperie in the French Concession, with a couple of brave souls that woke up in time for Sunday Brunch. My foodie boss always raves about this place, so I decided that it was high time to finally try it out! The restaurant is located really close to Hengshan Road, on the intersection of two streets next to the cutest kitchen store that I’ve seen in Shanghai (Pantry Magic: http://www.pantry-magic.com/shanghai/index.php).
The cozy, wooden, nautical decor of La Creperie brings you back to a coastline cafe in the Hamptons (or France, I guess, but I can’t say that because I’ve never been). Bobby pointed out, “It must be good because, look, there are all these French people here.”

Well, I was a huge fan of their 35 RMB fresh-squeezed OJ, though it was a tad small (for American standards? And maybe for the price). The service was pretty good, and our crepes came out really quickly after we ordered:

I was in the mood for something simple so I ordered a crepe with chicken, spinach, and egg. I really liked the taste of the buckwheat crepe, but for some reason my crepe remained hopelessly stuck to my plate. On the other hand, if you get cheese with your crepe then they will fold the cheese inside. I’ll definitely go for the cheesy crepe next time!

For dessert, we got what was once voted as “Shanghai’s Top Ten Desserts,” according to City Weekend. I believe it was the #65 crepe, with caramel ice cream, caramel and cooked bananas. We added chocolate chips on top - what a good call. It was good, but I wouldn’t say AMAZING AMAZING, and I liked the texture of the entrees’ buckwheat crepe better.
All in all, yummy food, but for 55 RMB to, I don’t know, 90 RMB per crepe, I won’t be coming here too often.
